How To Count It All Joy – Part 2: Be of Good Cheer!

Your bravery will allow others to

walk in courage.

Live good stories. Be a good story.¹

~ Bianca Olthoff

It was quite the conversation happening inside my head! “Of all the things I could be asked to do, I never dreamed it would be this. My knees are weak, and my voice is shaky. There is no way I can do this!”

Although it still felt like a hand was tightening around my throat, my husband assured me I was more than equipped to speak to the enormous crowd of 12 people in the other room.  “O.K. Listen,” I told myself, “Take a deep breath and one courageous step. You can do this!”

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous, be of good cheer, be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

My pastor says, “You can fret and fear, or be of good cheer! Cheer is stronger than fear!” I chose to be of good cheer that day more than sixteen years ago, and it is true, that cheer was stronger than my fear! Little did I know then that in taking one courageous, cheerful step, counting it all joy, I would discover one of my greatest passions in life!

And the twelve people in that first class so many years ago? Many are still in my life today, sharing and growing with me; their lives are among the testimonies of God’s goodness that are my “Why?” in life; they are the joy that was set before me!

Your life is telling a story.

There are people who need your brave, courageous steps forward in faith, beyond pain, disappointment, or challenge, coming through with a smile on your face, joy in your heart, and purpose in your step. There are people who need your story of hope, redemption, healing, forgiveness, victory, and courage! Your story, your life… it matters!
