Courting God’s Way – Proverbs 30:18 -19

Courting God’s way makes for a very pleasant journey!

The Hebrew word for “way” is “derek” meaning: “guide, journey, path, road, course” and can also be used in reference to courting and Christian dating with marriage in mind.

What makes us think that we would have a better way of getting to know someone than the way God has designed? His path is right and true and pure…what’s not to love!

Even though courting has evolved into dating over the years, all of the precepts about love and relationships are still relevant today because they are timeless. And God’s way is the only way.

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?

The world would have us believe that we need to follow our hearts, yet God warns about dangers in following feelings instead of the wisdom He provides.

Psalm 1:6

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

How beautiful it is to know that we don’t have to figure it all out! He knows which direction we are headed in and gently guide us on the right path.

Psalm 18:30

As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.

When two people travel together down the path that is perfect, how can their love fail? Courting God’s way provides a covering of protection by His flawless Word. He wants the very best for our relationships and knows the only way is through our obedience.

Psalm 18:32

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.

It’s so hard to turn away from the temptations that bombard couples today. Yet, our precious Lord provides us with all the strength we need to keep us from getting off course and making choices that will cause us unnecessary hurt or harm.

Psalm 25:4

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.

If we are lost or confused, Jesus will give us clear instruction on the steps we should take. We don’t have to feel alone or overwhelmed by the decisions in front of us. We can rest in him and wait for his leading.

Psalm 25:9

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

It’s easy to think we have it all figured out when it comes to love and courting God’s Way. And yet, when we approach the Author of Love with humility, He will gladly share with us the most amazing path to the love we deserve.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

He is watching. Not to condemn or control, but He keeps His eye on us giving us His wisdom and discernment to steer us to the desire of our hearts and the fullness of all that Love has to offer.

Psalm 37:4-6

Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.

The world will present every possible temptation to take us off course. Developing Godly social skills and virtues is a lifelong process and trusting in His instruction will keep us from making the wrong decisions in courting or dating. The Word of God will always help guide you on the course that God has intended, and you will discover why He is the only “WAY.” Let Him lead you!
