Born on 29th November, 1971, David Wallace Crowder, well-known by the stage name of Crowder, is a renowned Christian folktronica musician. He used to be the lead singer of the now defunct David Crowder Band. Since 2012, after the disbanding of the group, he is working as a solo artist partnering with six step records and sparrow records labels. In 2014, he released his first solo album – Neon Staple. Prior to that, in 2013, he released his first solo single album titled as “I Am” which rose to the No. 3 position on the Christian Songs Chart.

Born in Texarkana, Texas, son of an insurance agent, he started his career with David Crowder Band – now-defunct a six-piece Christian rock and modern worship band from Waco, Texas. Their final album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts. The band is currently operative, known as The Digital Age, without Crowder and Mike Hogan. Crowder began his career by writing songs to incorporate into the worship times at the church and eventually church released an independent CD, Pour Over Me, followed by All I can Say in 1999.

Coming to the band, the band’s name is usually rendered with an asterisk, as “David Crowder*Band Crowder joked that the asterisk meant, “David Crowder [is about to go insane because Jack Parker continually tries to sabotage the work of the rest of the] band. The band began functioning, when Crowder realized that many of the students at Baylor University, a Christian university, were not attending church. Finding this very surprising he and Chris Seay started University Baptist Church (Waco, Texas) in 1995, while he was still a student. Crowder became Pastor of worship at the church and led worship and continued to do so throughout the year. The church’s congregation grew, as did the band’s lineup. Kyle Lake, University Baptist Church’s former pastor and also longtime friend of the band, had a strong influence on the band’s music in terms of content and inspiration both during his life and after Lake’s death.2

“Lift Your Head Weary Sinner (Chains)”

by Crowder
(feat. Tedashii)

Lift your head weary sinner, the river’s just ahead
Down the path of forgiveness salvation’s waiting there
You built a mighty fortress 10,000 burdens high
Love is here to lift you up, here to lift you high
If you’re lost and wandering
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory open wide
All who’ve strayed and walked away, unspeakable things you’ve done
Fix your eyes on the mountain, let the past be dead and gone
Come all saints and sinners, you can’t outrun God
Whatever you’ve done can’t overcome the power of the blood
If you’re lost and wandering
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory open wide
If you’re lost and wrecked again
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory be open wide
I ain’t from here I’m H-town
But at this stage my place now
It’s going down, no parachute
This so sick I need Theraflu
And there might be some they don’t have a clue
These moments don’t get no rarer dude
Cliqued up, 40 deep right there with you
Unashamed of the name, they can too
We turnt up, that’s right
Mind blown no glass pipe
In my zone we pass tight
This right here could be my last night
I count that, I don’t doubt that
Going in I shout that
You don’t see it I’m about that
This world man, I’m out that
He paid it all, no green backs
With a bruised heel no sling back
The King’s back
You’ve seen that
I mean that, redeem that
So we in here
Better get used to it
Who’ll do it you do it
Otherwise you blew it
Flew through it
Trying to be fly
Gassed up, trying to touch the sky
We’re blind though these blindfolds
We’re rippin’ off rickety bifocals
If you can’t see, you can’t be
Wasting my time by waiting
We’re making it moved through
? Los Angeles
We’re here to stay so let me hear you say
Here to stay so let me hear you say
Chain’s off me I know that’s fact
I love God I know that best
Christ saved me he ain’t holding back
One more man, no holdin’ back
If you’re lost and wandering
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory open wide
If you’re lost and wrecked again
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory be open wide
Let the gates of glory be open wide
Let the gates of glory be open wide3

Christian Music Challenge
The Christian Music Challenge 2.0 Devotional is our 30-day series of short video devotionals to encourage you to understand God’s purpose for Christian music and to incorporate it in your daily life.
This devotional is based on Al Menconi’s book, The Christian Music Challenge, which in turn was inspired by the biblical principle found in Isaiah 26:3 that reminds us to keep our mind focused on Christ and biblical principles, causing us to experience the peace of God. This is NOT salvation but simply a means to help us grow in our faith.
We developed the wristband as a reminder to continually focus on transforming your mind while you are going through the devotional.
We developed the tee shirt to encourage all participants to engage the public. It will get people wondering until they read the Scripture reference under “washed.” Romans 12:2 commands, “…do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
That’s what the Christian Music Challenge will help you do. Brain Wash, Wash Brain = Clean Brain. We are all about renewing our minds, which is helping us to become transformed to the likeness of Christ.
We strongly encourage all parents and teachers to read the Christian Music Challenge book. This will help you understand the pressure your children are experiencing daily and enable you to communicate values to your children.
