Prayer leaves anxiety with the Lord
“Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”
― Corrie ten Boom
Our Evening Prayer tonight focuses on anxiety . . . one of the thieves of trust and sleep.
I love to sleep. Seriously, it’s a joy for me to climb into my high-off-the floor bed and snuggle into the fresh, soft sheets. It’s one of my favorite activities, and I’m not depressed, I love cozy comforters and four pillows I can sink into comfortably.
I have a rule, though. I never take work to bed with me. Work can cause me anxiety. In bed, I will read, sometimes watch Netflix, drink something warm, and pray after the lights are turned off. Because sleep is needed so much, if I feel even a bit of anxiety, I will sit up in bed and picture myself giving my anxiety to God. It works for me, and I am able to drift off without tossing and turning because I trust Him to take care of my every need. I have learned the enemy of God hates for me to sleep well, and loves to stir up anxious thoughts. By casting my anxiety on the Lord, I am one less Christian satan can devour, and I will sleep soundly.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
