Prayer is Gratitude
If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.1
The Evening Prayer tonight is a very simple thanks to the Lord for a day filled with the tiniest blessings that all add up. Blessings upon blessings fill our hearts with joy and gratitude and makes for a better night’s sleep as we drift off into a peaceful slumber. When I stumbled upon the quote by Meister Eckhart, I liked it but had to process it. I take things literally sometimes, which is off for an artist. But then I made a list of some recent things I could thank God for this evening.
Thank You, God:
For loving me
For sending Jesus to die for me
For forgiving my sins
For guiding my way
For taking my anxiety away
For helping me with work
For hearing my prayer for a sick friend
For healing my heart
For hearing my cries
For answered prayer
For protecting me
For everything . . . .
So yes, I agree with Meister Eckhart, a thankful heart is enough in the simplest form, because, after all, every prayer can be a prayer of thanks even when we are requesting God’s attention. I can thank Him for hearing me, for giving me His attention, and for answering my prayer.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.2
Evening Prayers will be posted every night (North American Times). We hope you will be blessed and encouraged. If you don’t see the link on your Facebook newsfeed, just bookmark JoyfulTimesToday.com so you may check in throughout the day for spiritual encouragement and positive, upbeat articles.
