Prayer is giving our concerns to God
“The truth is that the very thing we refuse to surrender imprisons us. We never experience the freedom of walking with God and enjoying his presence until we let go.”
When I try to hold onto issues that crowd out my joy in the Lord, I find it’s vital that I go to the Lord with them before I sink into despair. Reading about the world troubles, and especially the attack in Brussels today, is overwhelming. I must surrender these hurts to the Lord so I don’t become locked up in sorrow. Certainly I want to show compassion and grieve, but I tend to allow these things to take over my mind, heart and soul. I can’t enjoy my intimacy with the Lord until I give Him everything that’s on my mind. He stills my heart with whispers of assurance that He is in control, and even in the yuck, He is in charge.
If the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.
When I thought, “My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
