Prayer is a way to a connect to God when your heart is breaking.
The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God, forgive me,’ or ‘Help me.’
God understands your sorrow better than anyone else. I admire Billy Graham’s honesty when he shares that our lives as Christians are not “constant highs.” They are like roller coasters. Up and down, around and around. But we always know God is with us, helping us even when life seems upside down. He will always be there for us.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
I think Michele Bachman has it right about the Holy Spirit comforting us in our sadness.
The Holy Spirit is our comforter, our teacher. That’s why, in prayer, we can ask the Lord to open up Scripture and make it come alive to us, to open our understanding. He left his Spirit with us until we join him in Heaven.
Tonight, if you’re one of the people who are hurting in any way at all, I pray the Holy Spirit comforts your heart, lifting you up in His perfet peace and love.
