The Global Year of Living Joyfully
Pick a number between 1 and 30. Got it? Keep it in your mind as you read below.
I think 2016 should be The Global Year of Living Joyfully!
Someone comes up with these sub-holidays, so it may as well be us, right? Ready to be part of Team Joy? You’re a charter member, no dues for your lifetime and free coffee for all . . . cookies, too!
I’ll be your Ambassador of Joy and you can have whatever title or name you want to call yourself. 🙂 Need a name tag? Make one and wear it proudly. At least, you’ll get some attention and have a way to bring joy to the people around you . . . think of the questions they’ll ask! 🙂
I’m partly teasing about some of this (no free coffee and cookies), but in my heart, I’m serious. I truly believe in the joy that Jesus brings into our lives, and I love sharing it with others.
Allow me to help you share your joy too.
Even if you’re suffereing right now, joy is still residing in your soul. Ask the Spirit of God to bring it to the front of the line of your emotions.
First, think about a bad day you recently had and how someone helped make it better. How did they show love, kindness, or appreciation?
Second, think about a way you can use the same way they made you feel better, in someone else’s life. Or come up with your own way to show joy. Be creative and match your expression of joy to their need.
Team Joy can make an incredible difference when we show how following Jesus and living joyfully can change the world around us. We aren’t people without troubles; we just choose to live out our days on earth with a joyful appreciation of the love of the Lord and all He has done for us.
God doesn’t ignore the need for joyful living. In His word joy is proclaimed, encouraged, and promised to Him and for us. Here are three of many verses that I love about joy:
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.
Living Joyfully with Purpose
So remember when you picked a number between 1 and 30?
Find that number below and discover who you can show some extra-special joy to this week. Or pick a new number every day!
Your list’s a reminder to scatter joy through love, kindness, and appreciation to the people in your life that aren’t part of your immediate family. Helping people know how much you care is going to change their day, and hopefully, they will pay it forward, one burst of joy at a time.
Pssst: It’ll change your day too!
Listed in alphabetical order are just some of the people who serve us each day. It doesn’t show an order of importance since Team Joy members know all people who serve us are #1!
Scatter some joy to one of these people . . . or all of them!
- Carwash attendant
- Delivery person
- Gas Station Attendant
- Grocery store employees
- Health care worker
- Homeless person
- Person who calls you next
- Person who serves that you see next
- Pet groomer
- Police officer
- Pool guy or gal
- Restaurant Staff
- Sales Clerk
- Veteran of Armed Forces
Practice Living Joyfully!
One way to physically scatter joy is to use a tool of some sort. I use paper hearts and tags, leaving them everywhere I go in my ministry Hearts Across America.
By the way, I was inspired to pick the title Ambassador of Joy because I loved this article:
The World’s Greatest Amabassador of Joy, the story about The Crown Prince of Basketball, Meadowlark Lemon. What a legacy he left!
Team Joy Rocks!
How did you scatter joy? Share below in the comments and come back each time you share joy to encourage others.
