In Need of Direction

My eyes fluttered open, only to realize it was a dream.

A few nights ago, I dreamt that I was walking behind two persons, who seemed to have been my guide. Their pace quickened, and I struggled to keep up. I was in need of direction, they were leading me somewhere, and I was getting frustrated with the many twists and turns along the way. Suddenly, they were out of sight. I could no longer see them, and so I started to panic. My guides had left me at an intersection, and I did not know which way to go. I remember making attempts to contact them via telephone, which was futile. There I was, in an unfamiliar place, with unfamiliar people, and no one to help.

My dream was a reflection of my current mental state, as I feel as though my life is at a crossroads: I can go left, right, straight ahead, or go back from whence I came. The problem is, how do I know which is the correct path to take when it seems God, my Guide has left me? Doesn’t He know I need Him so that I don’t make the wrong choice?

Psalm 32:8 (NLT)

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.

Thankfully, His Word says that He will never leave me nor forsake me, as the two figures in my dream did.

Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Situations in life will cause us to question which route to take, what decisions to make, and what deals to break. Are you lost and in need of direction? God’s Word is our spiritual roadmap, which offers direction, and safely takes us to the destination He intends for us.

Isaiah 42:16

And I will lead the blind  in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known. I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.

We are all blind and do not see as God sees, nor do we know what lies around the corner or down the road. But as lost sheep, our Good Shepherd carefully and skillfully helps us to navigate the rough terrains of life. He knows every crevice and corner, every speed bump and stop-sign. His hands are outstretched, reaching for you to take a hold of it and dare to trust Him along the path He knows so well.

direction

The direction we choose to go in is as a result of the decisions we have to make. Often, there is an urgency for us to know what to do in a particular situation, and it seems like God goes quiet and gives us the silent treatment in that moment of desperation. This is the time we have to pause at the stop sign, wait for the thoughts in our mind to come to a standstill, and allow Him to take us safely on the route that He has marked out for us.

The Holy Spirit is your compass and personal GPS. He is the Light of the world and will illuminate the darkness that shrouds your path. Trust His direction; He will not lead you astray.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

With God as your Guide, you have no need to fear being lost.
