Jesus, Restore Us To Love!

She was shocked, to say the least. Why would he choose her birthday to announce he was leaving? Was he really that selfish?

Restoring a car is difficult when you don’t have the right tools, knowledge or professional help. Restoring a relationship is far more complicated – unless you have Christ!

Karla and Brent had been married for 8 years and most of those years were shrouded in lies and deceit. She wanted to work on their marriage, but he seemed to have a different agenda – his own. Psalm 51:12

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

These verses teach us that God is the Great Restorer. Our willingness to allow Him to restore our relationships is the only way we can guarantee that it is being done correctly and completely. When two people are in conflict, it takes both people to let God restore them to the fullness of Christ.

Galatians 6:1

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

It is easy to recognize and point out the sins of another and it is easy to be tempted to slip into the sin of judgment a well. In relationships, the focus should be on Jesus and not on the iniquities of another person. We are all flawed and have challenges. By looking long and hard into the mirror, we can begin to let Jesus gently peel back the layers of self-reflection and begin His work in us.

Psalm 71:20

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

God doesn’t ever leave us in a state of despair or guilt. He is anxious to restore us to love by letting the Light shine on the damage in a relationship and healing the wounds of hurt. He can pull us out of the pit of destruction and free us from jealousy, anger, pride, bitterness and selfishness.

1 Peter 5:10

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

It is uncomfortable to be in conflict in a relationship, but Jesus gives us the hope we need to push through the difficult times and restore us to His original design. Jesus not only wrote the manual; He IS the manual!

Job 8:5-7

But if you will seek God earnestly and plead with the Almighty, if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state. Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.

God is the Only One that can restore us single-handedly – not because we are objects but because we are the object of His Love.

Love Quote: Psalm 80:18-19

Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. Restore us, Lord God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
