People who gently push their faith are my favorite people of all to be with!
Faith Pushers change the world!
The key word is “gently,” though. Let me explain.
Think of pushing a baby in a stroller, gently, lovingly, and carefully. We take the baby on a journey of discovery, no matter where we push the stroller. Everything is brand new to their little eyes.
And this is what I hope for when I gently push my faith: that by sharing with someone what God has done in my life, he or she will discovery, wonder, and see life in a new way.
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15
Gently pushing faith involves sharing and listening to testimonies of God’s love and faithfulness. It’s how God is constantly using transparent people to change lives in His world as they gently push their faith for everyone to see and hear. Everyone, that is, who wants to hear.
The opposite of gently pushing faith is to turn someone off in a harsh way. Perhaps screaming at them, or even standing on the street corner with signs proclaiming “the end is near!”
I challenge you to become transparent: a person who doesn’t hide what God has been doing and is doing in your life. Be bold with a gentle, loving, gracious spirit. And remember that it’s not your job to bring people to Jesus: it’s the Holy Spirit’s. We’re simply His tools. We’re witnesses for Jesus.
As 1 Peter 3:15 tells me, I want to be prepared to give an answer. What helped me long ago was create lists of thankfulness to remind me of how God has changed my life so I could gently push my faith.
