Christian teens developmentally…are still teenagers.

Though a teen may have a solid faith base, moral compass and is a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, the temptation to take a shortcut to love can be very real.

Teens are bombarded every day with opportunities to cut corners when it comes to courtship and dating with marriage in mind. It is no surprise that for many the urgency is to experience intimacy as soon as possible, and as one of my students said, “Just get this over with!”

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Even aside from the desire to experience physical love, many Christian teens have expressed to me that it is a long road to get to marriage. They are frustrated and impatient and want love to happen right now. One particular teen shed light on the challenge she faces, I feel like so many teens, and young adults spend the majority of their time partying. The great part for them is that partying fills up their time before they meet the right person. But I don’t party. Social media is the new place to party, and everything happens much faster, so you don’t have to wait to meet someone, it’s a shortcut to finding love.”
