The Prodigal Daughter

Broke, unhappy, angry, and miserable . . .

I was a prodigal daughter suffering from the effects of my decision to walk away from my Father.

For a period of my life, I turned my back on the church and ventured out into the world of revelry, the lust of the flesh and a lifestyle of sin, and like Dora, I began to explore . . .

A slave to carnality, I was no longer morally upright with standards and values. I was on a bobsled heading to Hell, ignoring the speed limits, caution signs, red flags and detours that God was putting in my path.

As a result of free-will, I made unwise choices and paid a high cost for my actions.

Depressed, dejected and dismayed, I had an epiphany, much like the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) and dragged myself home. The grit, grime, and gunk from a life of immorality was pungent and wafted through the air, but by no means did He find it offensive as He lovingly embraced me.

I was taken aback by His compassion, grace, and forgiveness towards me and was in a daze as He expressed His love for me as my Father; I could not comprehend it.

Not only did He take me back and throw me a “Welcome Home” party, but He also gave me a new outfit. What girl doesn’t love new clothes? He clothed me in affection like a robe; and my new ring represented the inheritance of His riches . . . after all, my Daddy is a King. And shoes?! A pair of size eight shoes were fitted for this walk into restoration, holiness, and purpose.

Much like the Prodigal son, I know what it is like to squander resources and be left fending for myself, but being a Kingdom Citizen, I have riches stored up for me in heaven! God as my Father has also put into place everything I need on Earth so that I do not lack anything, and even in seasons of nothingness, He has taught me how to be content.

Philippians 4:11

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

Sin disgraces, but God’s love embraces.

He is ready to embrace you just the same, regardless of the fact that you may be rolling around in a pigsty of sexual sin, theft, lying, drunkenness, abuse or foul language. You are His child, and He loves you unconditionally. Come home Prodigal child; Daddy is waiting on your return.
