Verse of the Day ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

*Verse of the Day*

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

I call our verse of the day my survival verse. When I’m feeling any sort of negativity, I’ll voice it out loud, and it calms me down immediately.

When I lead women’s groups and use this verse as part of the study I have them cut out a huge heart and then list everything that fills their hearts. Faith, family, friends, work, shopping, school, and even the things they are not proud of such as an addiction, lies, and deep dark sins.

Our hearts are filled with so many things, and we can give everything to the Lord which will help us learn to trust Him more.

Next, I have the women turn their paper heart over and tear out a small piece of it anywhere. When they turn it right side up, it shows them how they often don’t give God everything. That may or not be the missing piece they removed, but it helps the women see how we think we give EVERYTHING to the Lord, but sometimes hold something back.

When we give God  all of our heart we can lean fully on Him.

As long as we think we can’t trust Him with everything, we’ll continue to lean on what we understand to be true.  And if you’re like me, you already know that your own understanding is often muddied with emotions, exaggerations, and bad decisions. I choose to lean on the only One who makes my life have meaning and make sense: The Lord of my life.
