The Way of Love ~ Part Eleven
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
1 Corinthians 13:11
Lord, I give you my mind, my heart and my soul. Teach me your ways, bring my faith to maturity as You want it to be. May I glorify You, never staying stuck on the baby steps of my faith, but climbing into Your Word so I may please You as I seek Your will.
So. when my grandsons were young they called me Amma Boo. I loved this sweet endearment and never wanted it to stop. But, sadly as they grew up they changed it to Gramma Boo. One day when they were 3 and 2, I told them my name is Becky, and they were very put out by that. Michael laughed and said “No! Your name is Gramma Boo!”
These childhood views on names remind me how when I first met Jesus, I needed to be gently spoon-fed God’s Word. Reading the Bible was brand new to me, so my mentor took me through baby steps until I was ready to move into deeper things. Within a few years, I enjoyed learning particular doctrines of the Christian faith and studying the meanings of the Greek words.
Today I don’t want baby bites anymore; I didn’t stay stuck on the basic foundations of my faith, but I wanted more mature food.
The more I get to know the Word, the more I’m starved for more.
