The way of Love ~ Part Nine
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13:8
Lord, as I read 1 Corinthians 13 and am reminded that perfect love never ends, I’m so blessed knowing You are that perfect Love in my life.
In America, we use the word love every day . . . it could mean I love God, I love you, I love coffee. But in the Greek language, many words depict the meaning of love. Here are a few of them:
eros ~erotic love, passionate love,
phileó ~ an affectionate love in intimate friendships
philarguria ~ love of money
philanthrópia ~ love of people or to show benevolence.
philosophia ~ love of wisdom and philosophy
storgē ~ comfortable affection for a husband, wife, children, pets
Agape – love that is unconditional and noblest word for love in the Greek language
Love in the context of 1 Corinthians 13 is agape love. It is referring to our love to for others with God-like modeling. This love keeps on loving even when the recipient does not respond or is unlovable and lacks kindness. It is perfect and forever love. It is unconditional and unselfish.
W. M. Blackburn compares this love like “a flower whose petals never fall off.”

Once, Dr. Doddridge asked his small daughter why everybody seemed to love her, she answered, “I cannot tell, unless if is because I love everybody.”
That is such a sweet way to live out our lives: loving everybody!
