The Way of Love ~ Part Ten
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13:9-10
Father, I’m so grateful for the perfect love of Your son, Jesus. It is hard for me to grasp that even if I were the only person in the world, He would still have given His life for me on the cross. May I be worthy of His love, of Your love.
Please teach me to love like You do.
I knew this verse is tucked in between all of Paul’s love-talk, and I wasn’t sure how to gently share my thoughts. There are many views on this verse, and it can divide people.
That sure isn’t what the Lord intended, is it? All this meaningful talk about love, and then believers start fussing with each other about what it could mean. I’ve seen heated debates which took away from studying God’s beautiful word.
I could ask ten theologians what their take on it is, and you’ll most likely get ten view points. Since I’m starting my Masters program in Theology this year, I will eventually need to discuss this in an academic paper.
However, this is not the day.
For now, I have decided not to study my Greek New Testament. Instead, I am going to talk about the one thing we all can agree on: Jesus is the Perfect.
And the Perfect wants us all to focus on His Father, our Father.
He wants us to follow Him, to walk in love, to show love in all we say and all we do. Exactly the type of love we’ve been discussing in 1 Corinthians 13.
The painting I used in the featured image is by Greg Olsen. I absolutely love the way he portrays the love and patience of Jesus as He walks with the little boy. He doesn’t seem to want to hurry him along, but allows a little time to look at the small chipmunk. You may order the print at Fine Art America.
Here it is unfaded:
