The Way of Love ~ Part 3
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
Lord, I realize that without love I am nothing. Even if I have wisdom, and knowledge, without your love shining through me, I am nothing. And even if my faith is strong, but I do not give love when I share it, I am nothing. No wonder you make love such a priority for us. With love, we can bring others to you. And we can bring ourselves into an intimate relationship with you too.
If you looked around my writing table, you’d see piles of books on love by some of my favorite authors. You’d also see my collection of hearts scattered around my living room, and the wall plaques celebrating love with verses and inspirational sayings. You’d be aware that love is important to me. Hearts have been a favorite symbol of mine since grade school. In fact, it was in eighth grade that I made my first calligraphy design with hearts and the saying ” to be loved, be loveable.”
While I have all the outward signs of a woman who is passionately in love with the Lord, my mind sometimes rebels. When someone hurts me deeply, I struggle with loving them. When I am wronged or offended, I also struggle. It’s sometimes difficult to love the unloveable.
And then I hear a little tap-tap-tap on my heart as the Holy Spirit beckons me. He reminds me of my first art piece and helps me focus on meeting the battle in my mind with a quiver full of love arrows.I’m so thankful for the residence of His Spirit in my soul. Through His power, I can fully show and feel love for everyone, Even those that cause pain.
Without His power, I am useless. Kind of like when I broke my little toe: it kept me from being able to walk far distances during the healing process. I might look like I could walk, but by all indications, my steps were a little gimpy and halting. So, I know I need the Spirit’s power, and I pray for authentic love and know that God will provide it, because that is exactly what God wants from me.
I’m very excited to be writing this little series on love. Stay tuned for part four tomorrow when we look at the next verse in 1 Corinthians 13.
