When You Face Trials

A few months ago in South Africa, we had the opportunity to attend the Passion concert.

Being such a big Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio fan meant nothing could stop us from going. But this does not mean Satan did not try his best to keep us away. Things became hectic, and we were not sure if there would be time to make it to the concert. The devil was busy filling our plates with so many things that we could not find our feet. Trials are everywhere when we start walking towards God and what He has planned for us. We cannot run from it and besides, we were never meant to.

James 1:2-4

Trials and Temptations

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

I probably do not need to ask you this, but have you ever realized when you finally get closer to God, everything around you starts going wrong? Friends start fighting with you, at home everybody seems irritated with you for no reason and let’s not even start talking about work! During these times, it seems you are totally incapable of doing anything right.

Well, my friend, do not be dismayed! There is a reason to be extremely happy; it means you are on the right path or the devil would not be fighting you. I have never seen anyone fighting over something they do not want. Whenever there is fighting, it is born out of want. In such cases as these, the devil wants to pit us against God. He wants our spiritual fruit to grow sour. He wants our attention away from our Saviour. How do we overcome this? Patience, endurance and a lot of prayer!

Next time something destructive comes knocking on your peaceful door, shout out loud:

“Listen to what I say, this is what I pray, with Jesus’ help, satan go away!” and slam the door in his face. You are tough, you are strong and capable of everything through God Who gives you the power.
